How does a biomass plant work?

The use of biomass, wood and agricultural waste for renewable energy is one of the most important challenges to achieve sustainability in the world.

Biomass processing is one of the most interesting challenges for the present and for the years to come. Even today, biomass is the 15% of primary energy use in the world: one of the most important resource available to man. One way to put the focus on the environment and energy savings.

The use of biomass, wood and agricultural waste for renewable energy is one of the most important challenges to achieve sustainability in the world.
With its care about the environment, La Meccanica has been building and testing for years, under the most harsh operative conditions, a whole range of hi-tech machinery and plants for the processing of wood and biomass. The machines and processing solutions, specifically designed and conceived according to the raw materials involved, are fit to turn the following raw material into high-output fuel.

wood and biomass pellet production process

As you can see in the flow chart above the biomass pelleting process consists of multiple steps including raw material, pelletizing and packaging.
The preparation in the pelleting process is the reception and first work of feedstock which includes selecting a feedstock suitable for this process, its filtration, storage and protection. Raw materials used are sawdust, wood shavings, wood wastes, agricultural residues like straw, switchgrass etc.

Starting with the screening system for wood chips and/or sawdust, the raw material comes in La Meccanica machinery.
The screener is used in order to clean raw material from foreign corps such as sand and oversize material.

In order to reduce the size to sawdust we insert the milling system for dried wood chips and/or shaving by hammer mill.
The pelleting system for wooden sawdust is one of the most important of the whole process. It’s made by pellet mill and consist in agglomeration of sawdust into wood pellet.
After the pelleting system it comes the c
ooling system for wood pellet by ambient air, to reduce temperature available for packaging process.
The sifting system cleans the wood pellets from dust.
In the end all the product is put in a storage silo of wood pellet for truck bulk loading or to packaging system for small bags of 15 kg each or big-bag.
