The Hammer mill line
La Meccanica mission for the biomass branch is to deliver efficient and reliable solutions for the pellet’s industry, and it means not only conditioning and pelleting.The milling-refining of biomass is an important step to produce high quality pellets and optimized energy consumption.
The input material type and quality and final pellets requirements suggest the optimal size of screen holes, but in normal conditions it is better to avoid too small holes. A homogeneous distribution of material over the grinding-refining area is also a must to optimize the efficiency.
In the wood and biomass pellet production process the wet raw material (wood chips) is stored into warehouses, or it is loaded into the hammer mill by loading hopper.
Wet milling process reduces the granulometry of raw material in order to have available size for the drying process but has less capacity, high main power consumption and high investment costs.
In the drying line the wet raw material (sawdust and / or wood chips) stored into warehouses or coming from the wet hammer mill, is loaded into the dryer loading hopper. The drying process evaporates the water contained in the wet raw material up to the moisture content suitable for the pelletizing process. It consists in investing and continuously crossing the material with hot air for a certain period of time. The air is heated by a solid fuel combustor (biomass) or by using the thermal energy supplied by the adjacent cogeneration plant or biomass boiler, by hot water and combustion fumes.
The hammer mill for dried wood chips and/or sawdust “LG” version has high capacity, standard main power and standard investment cost.

In La Meccanica standard solution for the feeding of the hammer mill is realized by a suction system with an upstream heavy particle/metal separator. This system guarantees also an efficient distribution of material over the refining area.
The mill is equipped with exchangeable hammers and screen inserts where the fineness is determined by the size of the selected hammer mill screen.
The material is separated from the aspiration and transportation of air in the cyclone. The refined sawdust is loaded into a dosing silo, where it is possible to constantly control moisture.
