In Samokov, Bulgaria, La Meccanica di Reffo has set up an advanced plant for the production of biomass pellets. It covers an area of about 50,000 square meters, of which 6,000 square meters are used for the production area, wood chip storage and pellet storage and 25,000 square meters for raw material storage. Furthermore, an internal laboratory equipped with cutting-edge tools guarantees a constant control of the pellet quality even before packaging.

The customer is SAMKOV INVEST, a Bulgarian company that has been operating for years in the field of thermal comfort and energy saving. The company deals with the wood processing using only wood logs from coniferous forests and has always been operating in total respect for the environment, paying particular attention to the regeneration of the forests from which retrieves the raw material.

It took only 8 months, from the design phase, to set up this plant with a production capacity of 70 tons of pellets per day, that will soon reach 140 tons.

The insertion of a CLM 935 pellet mill and a 360 kW hammer mill, with an output humidity probe that supplies real-time data, guarantees an hourly production of 6 tons. A counterflow cooler and a vibrating sifter have been added to clean and cool the pellets. At the outset of the dryer, a second vibrating sifter for dry wood chips was placed to remove impurities such as bark and silicon.

This, together with the quality of the dies, has allowed exceeding the 3500 working hours of a die by producing a pellet of superior quality, which has received the ENplus A1 certification according to the European standard UNI EN 14961-2, which guarantees the highest quality level of the produced pellet. The ENplus certification was extended not only to pellets but to the entire production process that goes from procurement of coniferous logs to packaging and storage.

Particular attention in the process is reserved for quality control thanks to an internal laboratory that daily monitors the quality of the pellet produced.

The plant is also equipped with an intake system with a state-of-the-art filtration, which guarantees clean and dust-free air.
