A mismatched or low-quality die accelerates roller wear. An incorrectly profiled roller damages the die surface prematurely. The result: double the cost, double the downtime.

Every die goes through a precise multi-phase production process: turning, deep drilling (gun drilling), counter boring, heat treatment, and rigorous quality control before it leaves our facility. The result is a component built for maximum open area, consistent hole geometry, and long operational life — even under the demanding conditions of animal feed, biomass, or fertilizer production.

Our roller shells are produced with the same philosophy: precise dimensions, optimal surface hardness, and profiles matched to the specific compression requirements of your material.

🔧 Universal Compatibility — Your Pellet Mill, Our Components

One of the most common challenges feed mill operators face is finding quality replacement dies and rolls that fit their existing equipment — especially when the original manufacturer's lead times are long or prices have become difficult to justify.
La Meccanica manufactures dies and roller shells compatible with all major pellet mill brands. Our technical team works from your mill specifications to produce components that fit precisely and perform reliably — without compromising tolerance or material quality.

This is what you must know before requesting dies and rolls for your pelleting plant:

1.What steel grade is used, and if is it certified
The material determines fatigue resistance and operational lifespan. The two key elements in our dies are carbon and chromium. The carbon content of the steel affects the corrosion resistance and the wear resistance of the die. A free chromium content above 12% classifies a steel as stainless.

2. What are the hole tolerances
Tight tolerances mean consistent pellet geometry and less energy per ton produced.

3. What heat treatment process is applied
Surface hardness must be balanced with core toughness to avoid brittle fracture. The heat treatment of La Meccanica dies is made by two cycles: the hardening and the tempering.  The total hardening cycle lasts about 16 hours and allows the dies to reach a hardness between 52 and 55 HRC points. Once the heating is done, the dies are cooled using gaseous nitrogen. After the hardening process the dies are unloaded and proceed with the second part of the heat treatment: tempering. This phase is meant to relieve internal stresses in the material, increasing its toughness.

4. Is the roller shell profiled for your specific material
Different products — feed, biomass, fertilizer — require different roller profiles. At La Meccanica, we do not produce a single standard roller shell and apply it across all applications. The profile of a roller shell — the geometry of its working surface — is engineered specifically for the material being processed, because the pelleting behavior of animal feed, wood biomass, and organic fertilizer are fundamentally different from one another.
